Spring sunshine can give us an invigoration and the inclination to spring clean.
I always think the best place to start is the bedroom, which is what I did yesterday on my day off from Better Furniture!
The bedroom is our sanctuary and the place where we breathe a contemplative sigh of relief when collapsing into bed after a day at work.
Here is a shortlist of things to acheive when spring cleaning.
A good lint free duster is essential for losing those streaks when polishing, especially glass and mirrors.
Get all those high up places and corners where the cobwebs lurk!
JOANNE’S TOP TIP:- Use old socks taped to the bottom of your broom to easily gather those cobwebs and throw straight in the bin.
Open a window for good ventilation whilst disturbing dust and to air the room thoroughly.
To ensure the last traces of dust have gone from your precious sleeping areas.
Using a clean cotton cloth with a bowl of warm water.
JOANNE’S TOP TIP:- I use a few drops of concentrated scented disenfectant or lavender oil. (Caution on delicate surfaces!).
The bedframe could probably do with a wipe and freshen, even light switches need a wipe with constant greasy fingers switching them on and off!
The dampness of the cloth will help any disturbed dust and allergy sufferers of dust will be healthier because of it.
Washing the Bedding
This seems obvious, but we can ONLY imagine the vast quantities of dead skin cells trapped inside our beds when we snuggle down for a good nights sleep!
Changing the linen regularily will get rid of all the skin particles that we shed
naturally while we sleep at night!
Consider sensitive washing products if anyone suffers with allergies in the family.
In my opinion there is nothing better in this world than fresh clean bed linen!
Ooo that feeling of a fresh duvet!
JOANNE’S TOP TIP:- I do however, hate wrestling with the duvet cover and tend to ask my husband to help with this task!
Dusting will move the particles around and a lot will settle on your floors, so the perfect round off is to vacuum.
Put some music on and get the vacuum cleaner plugged in!
JOANNE’S TOP TIP:- A few drops of Lavender or Tea Tree oil acts as an antiseptic and smells gorgeous when put in the filter area of your vacuum cleaner.
Rotating Your Mattress
The majority of mattresses these days require rotating only.
Rotating end-to-end periodically will allow even settlement on both sides of the mattress.
It is recommended to rotate your mattress once a week during the first 3 months and thereafter with the Seasons.
Give your mattress a good airing on a daily or weekly basis – simply leave the bed linen turned back for a few hours each time and allow air to circulate around and through the mattress.
JOANNE’S TOP TIP:- A mattress protector will do a great job of keeping it clean and protected.
Those Little Extras in Life To finish your spring clean, add some fresh spring flowers to your beautifully complete bedroom.
Narcissi are now in season and always give a sweet smell to any room.
Put that kettle on and have yourself a well deserved cuppa!
JOANNE’S TOP TIP:- Spring foliage from the garden adds a wild Spring look with no cost!
Also get the husband to make a cuppa for you!
One last thing before you go off and clean clean clean…..
Get those windows open during the day if your room catches the sun during daylight hours.
If you have trouble getting relaxed before you sleep it can also help to have a cool shower before going to bed, this will lower your body temperature and make you more eager to get into a comfy bed.
